What Is Mantle Network (MNT)?

Mantle Network (MNT) is a layer-two chain on Ethereum which recently launched its mainnet alpha. It uses optimistic rollups to enable faster and cheaper transactions, meaning it bundles many transactions together and executes them off-chain, while still verifying them on-chain. This way, Mantle can process faster and cheaper transactions, while still being compatible with Ethereum.

Mantle is developed by BitDAO, a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) founded by Bybit, one of the leading crypto derivatives exchanges. It aims to become one of the main scaling solutions for the Ethereum ecosystem.

Mantle also plans to launch various products and initiatives that leverage its technology, such as Mantle LSD (a decentralized staking service), Mantle EcoFund (a capital pool for investing in high-potential applications and technology partners), EduDAO (an incubator for blockchain innovation) and Game7 (a consortium of crypto leaders and gaming experts).

Who Are the Founders of Mantle Network (MNT)?

Mantle is a project developed by BitDAO. BitDAO was launched in June 2021 with a $230 million private sale, backed by prominent investors such as Peter Thiel, Founders Fund, Pantera Capital, Dragonfly Capital, and more.

The founders of BitDAO are Ben Zhou and Daniel Yan, who are also the co-founders and executives of Bybit. Ben Zhou is a former forex trader and a serial entrepreneur in the crypto space. He has a BS in Computer Science from Fudan University. Daniel Yan is a former hedge fund manager and a co-founder of Tencent-backed fintech company Matrixport.

What Makes Mantle Network (MNT) Unique?

Modular Architecture: Mantle is built with a modular design, meaning it can adapt to the changing needs and preferences of the users and developers, as well as to integrate with various blockchains and protocols.

EigenLayer Element: Mantle uses a novel data availability layer called EigenLayer Element, which is a decentralized network of nodes that store and verify the data from the layer-two chains. EigenLayer Element ensures that the data is always available and consistent, even if the L2 chain goes offline or becomes corrupted.

Mantle LSD: Mantle liquid staking derivative (LSD) is a decentralized staking service that allows users to stake their ETH on Mantle and earn rewards. Mantle LSD enhances the capital efficiency of ETH by allowing users to use their staked ETH as collateral for borrowing, lending or trading on other protocols.

Mantle EcoFund: Mantle EcoFund is a capital pool of $200 million that invests in high-potential applications and technology partners of Mantle. Potential investment avenues for the fund are Mantle partners in need of financing, connections or guidance to develop their projects.

How Many Mantle Network (MNT) Coins Are There In Circulation?

MNT is the native token of Mantle Ecosystem, a decentralized platform that enables users to access, create, and share data-driven financial products. MNT has two main functions: governance and utility.

MNT holders can participate in the decision-making process of the Mantle ecosystem by voting on DAO proposals. DAO proposals can cover various aspects of the project, such as budgeting, distribution, partnerships, acquisitions, and more. Each MNT token carries an equal vote weight, ensuring a fair and democratic governance system.

MNT is also used for practical purposes within the Mantle ecosystem. First, MNT is required for paying gas fees. Second, MNT can be staked as collateral for running nodes.

The current distribution of MNT aims for 65.6% for the treasury and 34.4% for circulating supply. A community proposal aims to arrive at a new distribution to increase predictability for token holders. The target distribution of MNT is: Mantle Treasury: 49%; Circulating Supply: 51%.

How Is Mantle Network (MNT) Secured?

Mantle uses a mechanism called fraud proofs to detect and punish any invalid state transitions. Fraud proofs are a type of proof that show that a state transition was incorrect, by executing all the state transitions between two asserted commitments and showing that the resultant commitment differs from the asserted one.

A commitment is a hash of the state of the Mantle network, which is periodically published on the Ethereum blockchain. A state transition is a change in the state of the Mantle network, which is caused by a transaction or a block of transactions. A state transition can be either valid or invalid, depending on whether it follows the rules and logic of the Mantle network.
